Goal Setting for an EPIC 2010!

December 30th, 2009

Dear Fellow Dream Builder;

As 2009 comes to a close I want to offer some tips and strategies for making 2010 an EPIC year. I hope though, that 2009 was a year filled with opportunity and success. If it wasn’t, I hope that you take the time to reflect and learn from the difficulties, errors and hiccups that have no doubt made you a stronger and smarter business builder.

Because this is a blog about marketing and copywriting, I want to stay focused on goal setting in the business sense. Nevertheless, whatever types of goals you set for yourself, I hope that you will use the same strategies because they are applicable across the spectrum of goals. Setting an attaining goals that are personal, financial, spiritual or business oriented uses the same process.

The first thing to do, is not to look at these goals as New Year’s resolutions. This is a fatal mistake. That’s why I usually recommend setting goals a few weeks before New Year’s eve or a few weeks after. Too much pressure is put upon New Year’s resolutions. Don’t set yourself up for failure before you’ve even begun. Here’s why I don’t set New Year’s resolutions. Half of them are abandoned by January 2nd. Another 10% are left for dead on January 3rd and by April 1st folks realize how foolhardy they’ve been when a full 90% of resolutions litter the battlefield of good intentions like dead soldiers.

We’re not going to do that. We’re setting goals you and I, because goals are achievable and predetermined regardless of the time of year.

Now don’t inundate yourself with a bombardment of goals. Take it easy. Having a few, but of solid quality goals is not only more realistic but creates a better potential for success. I recommend usually no more than a handful of goals for each area of your life.

You also have to write them down. Write down your goals online or offline, it doesn’t matter, but you want to write them down specifically. For example if you want to increase your business revenues, then writing down the following is not a good goal. “Increase my business revenue this year.” In fact saying “Increase my business revenue by 10% this year” is still not good enough. Here is an example of a specific and actionable goal. “I will increase my sales revenue by $100k by October 31st 2010 by setting up an email marketing campaign with lead capture on my website and include a PPC campaign of $1000 per month until October 31st 2010.”

That is a much better goal. It is specific. It is actionable, you are telling yourself what you need to do to achieve it and it has a deadline. These are the key components to not only setting goals but achieving them too.

So carve out a couple of hours of quiet time over the next several weeks when things are not so hectic to plot your goals and set your course for success. You can make 2010 EPIC if you give yourself a well drawn out and actionable goal map.

To leave you with a last tip. You have to be able to review it everyday. What I do is create desktop wallpaper out of my goals, including images and the specific actionable steps. This way whenever I start up my computer in the morning I first read my goals right there on my desktop. And then last thing at night as I close my programs I am left with my goal wallpaper to review before I retire and turn off my computer. It works for me.

To YOUR EPIC success in 2010.

As always, seeing YOUR big picture,

Calgary Marketing Consultant

December 23rd, 2009

Dear Fellow Dream Builders;

I want to talk today about being a Calgary marketing consultant. This is one of the many hats that I wear and that I enjoy a great deal. Being a marketing consultant is a way to serve. And I think that all great leaders and dream builders are really servants in the truest sense of the word.

To be of service to others is perhaps the greatest gift that we can offer one another. People respond very well to being served. It is a rewarding experience for both the server and the receiver.

In fact as a Calgary marketing consultant I see my calling in serving my clients and fellow dream builders in a way that helps them build their businesses more easily and quickly. All great companies that have any longevity are servants to their customers.

As the global village becomes even smaller, we will see that serving others will become even more crucial to business success. But as a marketing consultant it is important to first understand how you can serve your clients to their best interest.

If someone comes to your business let’s say, and it is a restaurant, and they order coffee, then serving them tea is of no use to them and will just annoy them.

I have found this to be crucially important as a Calgary marketing consultant. If my customer is seeking my marketing help for their business to business enterprise, then I am of no use to them using my web design skills.

Now of course, many of your skills and especially as a marketing consultant, many of your skills might well be applicable across many platform applications, but it is always crucial to understand deeply how you can best serve your customer.

As a Calgary marketing consultant my service must be to help my clients market their products better. This is important, and to understand how they can market their products better, I must encourage them into service. The service of their customers.

So if I can close by paraphrasing a well known saying. First seek to serve before being served. As your Calgary marketing consultant I have found this to be especially true in the success of my own business. I bet it is equally true for the success of your own business too.

Search Engine Consulting – Why You Should Do It

December 15th, 2009

Dear Fellow Dream Builder,

Why should you decide to get to some search engine consulting for your online business? Well, there are a number of very good reasons why you should. As a business owner you have likely spent countless hours and maybe even years developing your business or product. You have a vast reservoir of knowledge with regards to your niche and a unique skill-set all your own. You know that you can’t be an expert in everything and that there are only so many hours in the day. Trying to learn additional skills that don’t relate directly to your business or product only takes away from your valuable time that would be much better spent developing new product or niche strategies or enhancing your offerings. By finding an expert who offers search engine consulting, you are leveraging someone else’s time and skill-sets to your best advantage. Smart business people know the power of leverage.

Search engine consulting is a dynamic field that evolves with the search engines themselves. For a business owner whose time is constantly in demand, the last thing you need is to have to take on a whole new pile of work and spend dozens of hours learning new skills. Search engine consulting can help accelerate your website’s profitability exponentially by exposing it to its widest possible customer base by increasing web traffic to your site. That simply will not happen on its own, the internet is far too vast and there are too many competitors out there who know what they are doing and use every competitive advantage. You need to compete on that level – period. This is a ground up, multi-pronged approach and something that needs to be maintained over time. However, you can spend all the time in the world doing it, but if you didn’t take the correct approach and do a thorough analysis in the beginning, it will all be for nothing. This is where getting expert search engine consulting is incredibly important.

Once your online business has been appropriately and fully optimized, you will soon see your site climbing up the search engine ladders. The goal is to be featured prominently when potential customers enter keywords that relate to what you have to offer. The more people that are exposed to your site through relevant searches the more sales you will see. It’s a direct and powerful correlation.

Don’t let your business under-perform. Seek out the expertise your business needs through search engine consulting and get it working for you. Leverage is a very powerful business tool and is essential if you want to make the big leaps in market share and profitability. Your business deserves nothing less.
